Best schools in Kingston Upon Thames

As the name suggests, Kingston Upon Thames is situated on the River Thames and is 10 miles (or 16 kilometres) from Charing Cross (the heart of London). It’s one of the 33 boroughs of Greater London and has become increasingly popular with families and retirees, not only because of its picturesque charm but also because it offers more affordable properties than neighbouring Twickenham, Wimbledon and Richmond.

For parents, the most important part of any relocation means finding an excellent school where their children can not only settle in but also thrive, and Kingston Upon Thames delivers on this as well!

Good and Outstanding schools

Kingston Upon Thames boasts 35 Ofsted rated “good” and “outstanding” schools which means you’ll be able to find your child’s perfect fit.

There are 35 primary schools in the area that include community schools, academies, foundation schools, and voluntary aided schools. Kingston is also home to one of England’s oldest schools: Kingston Grammar School, with a history dating back to 1561.

Out of 35 primary schools we’ve picked 5 of the best schools rated “outstanding”, here’s the list:

Collis Primary School

Situated on Fairfax Road in Teddington, this primary school’s Ofsted rating is “outstanding” and it’s noted that the teachers, managers and governors continue to give their 782 pupils an outstanding education.

Collis Primary has no religious affiliation and is a mixed-gender school with an almost perfect 22 pupils per teacher. Teachers have excellent knowledge of subjects and inspire their pupils throughout their learning. Indeed, children in their early years excel because of the excellent quality and the wide range of learning experiences they’re exposed to.

Another important feather in Collis Primary’s cap is the safety factor – the school keeps pupils extremely safe and teaches pupils how to stay safe.

Coombe Hill Junior School

This mixed-gender primary school is situated on Coombe Lane West, Kingston upon Thames and has 418 pupils.

Its Ofsted rating is “outstanding” and the school is exceptionally proud of its ethos to make the school “a happy place” for all its students. This is truly one of the best primary schools in Kingston Upon Thames with its reading, writing and maths scores being consistently high.

The school also encourages exercise and team-building skills which enhance their pupils’ personal development.

Fern Hill Primary School

Located on Richmond Road, Kingston Upon Thames, this mixed-gender community school has an Ofsted rating of “outstanding”. Fern Hill was established in 1994 due to the shortage of schools in the Royal Borough of Kingston.

The school includes art, drama, IT and special-needs departments, and even has its own vegetable garden (grown by the children) which contributes to the school kitchen.

Fern Hill instils its 4 values into teaches and pupils alike, these are:

inspiration; excellence; empathy; and collaboration.

Malden Parochial CofE Primary School

This mixed-gender primary school is situated on The Manor Drive, in Worcestor Park Kingston Upon Thames. It’s an average size Church of England school with only 264 pupils and its Ofsted rating is “outstanding” with the school earning a few awards including; the Silver Artsmark, Basic Skills, Healthy Schools, Eco-School and Investors in People status.

Mrs Pavlis, headteacher of the school welcomes parents and pupils, saying “Malden Parochial Church of England Primary School is very proud of the high standard of education it provides for its pupils. We pride ourselves on ensuring that all pupils are given the support needed to be able to realise their full potential. Our main aim is to provide children with a safe environment in which they can feel fulfilled, happy and encouraged to develop as individuals.”
